This ambitious project would find its place inside the splendid Bishop’s Palace, which was searching for a new function and renovation.
Thus, the association of the World Center for Peace, Liberty and Human Rights was created on the 2nd February 1990 by four institutional sponsors: the French State, the Conseil Régional de Lorraine (Regional Council of Lorraine), the Conseil Général de la Meuse (Meuse District Council), and the City of Verdun. Today, the board of directors includes local (apart from the City of Verdun) and state representatives.
Defined as a special place to debate questions related to Peace, Liberty and Human Rights with all their extends, the World Center for Peace sets up exhibitions, organizes conferences and symposiums, concerts, film projections and receives school groups thanks to its Department of Education.
